Today, April 28, various events are taking place in many countries around the world on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, UNN reports.

The event was launched in 2003 by the International Labor Organization.

The struggle of employees for their rights began in Great Britain during the Industrial Revolution.

In 1802, the British Parliament passed a law that limited the working day of minors in weaving factories to 12 hours, regulated the provision of clothing, a place to sleep, and their education in the basics of literacy and Christian religion.

In 1833, another law was passed, according to which adults were to work no more than 12 hours, hired labor of children under 9 was prohibited, and factory inspectors were introduced, who were given the right to check compliance with working conditions at enterprises.

Gradually, laws were passed in the UK and many other countries around the world that expanded the rights of employees and improved working conditions.

Since 2006, Ukraine has celebrated the National Day of Occupational Safety and Health on April 28.

Another related holiday today is the International Day of Remembrance of All Victims of Labor.

According to statistics, about five thousand employees die as a result of various accidents while performing their professional duties.

Every year, up to 300 million people suffer workplace injuries that result in disability for at least three days.

Today we can also celebrate Biological Clock Day. The event was launched in the United States and has become popular among people in many countries around the world.

The biological clock (circadian rhythm) is a daily phase of activity that repeats itself. It is needed to regulate sleep, wakefulness, eating behavior, hormone levels, and other processes. The regulation of the circadian rhythm is influenced by the concentration of hormones at different times of the day and genetic mechanisms.

Circadian rhythms, the 24-hour cycles that are part of the human body's internal clock, play a crucial role in determining sleep and wakefulness. Controlled by the brain's master clock, these rhythms depend on environmental cues - primarily light and darkness - and thus dictate not only sleep patterns, but also nutrition, hormone release, body temperature, and other vital bodily functions.

Modern scientific research began in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and culminated in the discovery of the "clock genes" that control these rhythms.

Today, animal rights activists and wildlife lovers can join the Frog Rescue Day.

Amphibians, including frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts, are among the most endangered animal groups on the planet. These fascinating creatures play a crucial role in ecosystems as predators and prey, contributing to pest control and serving as indicators of environmental health. However, they are facing unprecedented challenges and threats from habitat destruction, pollution, climate change and disease.

Today, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of their most important holidays, Palm Sunday. The event marks the beginning of Holy Week on the eve of Easter and is dedicated to the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. It is described in all four Gospels.

It is believed that the day before, on Saturday, the Son of God performed a miracle and raised his friend Lazarus.

On Sunday morning, Jesus' disciples brought the donkey on which he rode into Jerusalem, thus fulfilling Zechariah's prophecy.

The townspeople paved the way for Jesus with palm leaves.

In Ukraine, instead of palm fronds, the symbol of the holiday is willow branches, which must be blessed during the morning service in church.

On Palm Sunday, one should not engage in hard physical labor or needlework, quarrel or swear.

Kyrylo, Maksym, and Vitaliy celebrate their name days on April 28.
