British intelligence reports a record 7,400 desertions of mobilized Russian soldiers since September 2022, with the largest number of cases in the Moscow region.

According to the report, in March 2024, Russian courts sentenced a record 684 people to death for desertion, according to the Russian media. It is noted that the total number of cases since the "partial" mobilization in September 2022 is 7400, with the Moscow region having the highest number of cases - 496.
The intelligence service emphasizes that many Russian soldiers who are wanted and brought before a military court are given suspended sentences and returned to their units and the front line. At the same time, the number of asylum requests in Western countries from Russians evading military service has reached a record high.
Russian soldiers, including those forcibly recruited during the partial mobilization in September 2022, must remain in military service indefinitely, with little prospect of dismissal,
