Snow has fallen in Central Europe and the Balkans. Earlier, residents of these countries faced an unusually hot early spring, with temperatures reaching 30°C. UNN writes about this with reference to Euronews.
Details
Since Tuesday, it has been snowing in some parts of Austria, although the temperature was above 30°C over the weekend. Snow has fallen, in particular, on the Paxattel mountain pass in Carinthia. There have been several accidents, and drivers are required to wear snow chains on many roads. Emergency services fear that trees laden with snow will fall on roads and power lines.
Snow also fell in the Croatian Highlands. It was snowing and raining in places across the country. Residents are hoping to avoid frosts that could damage the fruit trees that are currently in bloom.
After two days of heat, the temperature in Romania has plummeted by almost 20°C. A real winter has come to the city of Cluj-Napoca in the northwest of the country. While on Tuesday the thermometer read 25°C, on Wednesday it was already 4°C.
The mountainous regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the capital Sarajevo, are also covered with snow. Earlier, the temperature here reached almost 30°C, which is unusual for spring in the Balkans.
Recall
Climatologists believe that such weather contrasts are intensifying due to global warming. At the same time, although the World Meteorological Organization concluded that 2023 was the warmest year since the beginning of global measurements, 2024 may be even warmer.
