Russia's occupation of Zaporizhzhya NPP threatens a new radiation disaster, so the world should put pressure on Russia to free the plant and return it to Ukrainian control.

The whole world must put pressure on Russia to secure the release of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which has been seized by Russians. This is the only way to prevent new radiation disasters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, UNN reports

Radiation knows no borders or national flags. The Chornobyl disaster demonstrated how quickly deadly threats can arise

- Zelensky wrote on the social network X.

He reminded that tens of thousands of people had eliminated the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster at the cost of their health and lives.

He also recalled how Russia occupied the Chornobyl nuclear power plant for 35 days in 2022. According to the President, Russian soldiers looted laboratories, captured security guards and abused the staff, and used the plant as a platform for further military operations.

Russian terrorists have been holding Zaporizhzhya NPP hostage for 785 days. And the whole world must put pressure on Russia to ensure the liberation of the plant and its return under full control of Ukraine, as well as to ensure the protection of all Ukrainian nuclear facilities from Russian attacks

- Zelensky emphasized.

The President noted that this is the only way to prevent new radiation disasters, which are constantly threatened by the presence of Russian occupiers at ZNPP.

"We remember the dedication of people who saved lives in 1986. We appreciate everyone who helps save lives now," the Head of State added.

Recall

Today, April 26, is the next anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant . The whole world is remembering the events of late April 1986, honoring the memory of the liquidators and people who died from radiation exposure, and taking measures to prevent similar man-made disasters in the future.
