MPs are looking for a mechanism to increase maternity benefits that have not been revised since 2014
Kyiv • UNN
MPs are working on a draft law to increase maternity benefits, which have remained unchanged at around UAH 41,000 since 2014, as the current amount is insufficient to support young mothers.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working on a draft law that would increase the amount of childbirth assistance. Currently, this payment is almost 41 thousand UAH, and it has not been revised since 2014. This was stated by MP, member of the Committee on Budget Lesya Zaburanna, UNN reports .
The relevant draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and is currently being discussed. A gradual increase in payments is a good idea. I sincerely support the need to increase such payments, so we will look for a mechanism to improve the financial situation of women who give birth to children. We must act to increase these payments, because the funds currently allocated are absolutely insufficient to help a woman who has given birth. We are discussing this issue and talking to our international partners about this need. At the same time, we will take into account the current budgetary capacity,

She also emphasized that international practice shows that the birth rate and the condition of women are primarily influenced not so much by payments as by opportunities to provide children with education and confidence in the future. And the state must also constantly work on this.
Recall
According to the Ministry of Justice, over 180 thousand children were born in Ukraine last year . This is almost a third less than before the full-scale invasion. Most of the young Ukrainians were born in Kyiv, and the fewest were born in Kherson region.
