In particular, the Assembly called for the creation of an international compensation mechanism under the auspices of the Council of Europe. This was reported by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk on Facebook, UNN reports.
"Today, the PACE adopted an important resolution 'Supporting Ukraine's Recovery,'" Stefanchuk wrote.
In particular, he said, the Assembly:
- called for the creation of an international compensation mechanism under the auspices of the Council of Europe;
- called on the Council of Europe member states and non-member states that own Russian state assets to actively cooperate in the speedy transfer of these assets to the established international compensation mechanism;
- called for the creation of an international trust fund to deposit all Russian state assets held by Council of Europe member and non-member states;
- called for the establishment of an impartial and effective international commission to review claims.
"The Council of Europe has already demonstrated leadership in creating the Register of Damages Caused by the Russian Aggression against Ukraine. Now, the Council of Europe should play a significant role in supporting Ukraine's recovery efforts by recommending the seizure of Russian state assets for this purpose," Stefanchuk said.
Previously
Stefanchuk discussed with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Theodorous Roussopoulos the mechanism of compensation for damages from Russian aggression and the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
