Court Extends Duties Imposed on Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court On March 28, 2024, the HACC panel of judges considered and partially granted the motion of the SAPO prosecutor to extend the duties imposed on the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, accused of receiving an unlawful benefit on a particularly large scale (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The term of his duties was extended until 28.05.2024 inclusive.

- the SAPO said.

Details

The prosecutor's office reminded that according to the HACC decision, the accused is subject to procedural obligations, including: not to leave the territory of Ukraine without the permission of the detective, prosecutor and court, to refrain from communicating with witnesses in the case, to deposit his passport/passports for traveling abroad and other documents entitling him to leave and enter Ukraine with the Main Department of the State Migration Service in Kyiv, and to wear an electronic control device.

On February 6 this year, at the request of the head of the SAPO, the High Council of Justice temporarily suspended Knyazev from administering justice in connection with criminal prosecution.

Context

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office accuses Knyazev of receiving $1.8 million in undue advantage. According to the prosecution, he received the money through an intermediary, lawyer Oleg Goretsky. The most significant bribe was given by Ukrainian oligarch Konstantin Zhevago for the Supreme Court's decision in his favor to purchase a 40.19% stake in the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant.

The indictment against the former Chief Justice was sent to court on March 4. The case is currently undergoing a preparatory hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for April 22, 2024.
